Strong Women March 8, 2019 – Posted in: Be Inspired

Here’s to strong women,

May we know them,

May we be them,

May we raise them.” – Unknown

Happy International Women’s Day! Did you know IWD has been celebrated around the world for decades??  First, a brief history lesson:

“After the Socialist Party of America organized a Women’s Day on February 28, 1909, in New York, the 1910 International Socialist Woman’s Conference suggested a Women’s Day be held annually. After women gained suffrage in Soviet Russia in 1917, March 8 became a national holiday there. The day was then predominantly celebrated by the socialist movement and communist countries until it was adopted in 1975 by the United Nations. Today, International Women’s Day is a public holiday in some countries.  It is used as a day of protest for some; to some it is a day that celebrates womanhood. Overall it is meant to be a focal point in the movement for women’s rights.”*

In other words, every March 8 we celebrate (which is coincidentally also reportedly the day Harriet Tubman was born, one of the strongest women in US history!).  Today we take a moment to acknowledge the strength, success and solidarity of women.  All women. We know Black Girls Rock! Today we celebrate All Girls That Rock! So much of our history is founded in HERstory.  Women inventors.  Women in business.  Women trailblazers.  Women in the military.  Women in politics.  Women who fought.  Women who supported.  Women who stood in the shadows.  Women who worked multiple jobs.  Women who held their tongue.  Women who held it down alone. Women who self-healed.  Women who never fully healed.  To all women: we applaud you.

May we continue to surround ourselves with strong women – women that lift one another up and live out the true meaning of womanhood.

May we continue to strive to be the best women that we can be – women that hold honor, respect and loyalty close to our open hearts.

May we continue to raise the best women for our future – women that carry the virtues of our ancestry, and follow the voice that we helped them to develop.
