Top 12 Home Tips for Summer June 24, 2022 – Posted in: Organization, Things To Do – Tags: Home, Summer
Summer is finally HERE and if you are like us we couldn’t be more excited! Nice long days, plenty of sunshine, hanging with friends & family, and maybe even a mini vacation or two. What do YOU have planned for Summer 2022? Make the most of it. Unfortunately it will be gone before you know it. Take time for YOU. Also take time for your environment. Let your home or apartment feed your soul and HELP you to have a healthy and satisfying summer!
As we complete our first week of summer follow these tips to see if you and your home are SUMMER READY!!
Check Your A/C And/Or Fan
Be safe as the temperature rises and make sure you have adequate fans and working A/C well before the dog days of summer. Don’t wait for the heat wave to arrive – stores may sell out and you will be left sweating it out. Overheating is real – be prepared in advance!
–> Automate Your A/C With Smart Devices
If you real fancy, set your smart home to your smart devices for easier access to cooler days. “Alexa, turn on A/C.” Boom. Now can Alexa bring me a cold lemonade??
Clean Out Your Screens, Shutters and Window Sills
No matter if you are a homeowner or renter, it’s a good idea to check on your windows before it gets too hot. Dust and dirt on your screens, shutters and sills could let harmful particles into your home. Breathe good ol’ clean air by being proactive from the jump!
–> Inspect & Clean Your Ceiling Fans
By the same token, it’s a good idea to clean off all fans as well. Dirty fans will only recycle dust into the air and into your lungs. Clean air, clean mind, clean body!
Clean Out Your Freezer
Your freezer and refrigerator just may be guilty of holding on to winter storage. The foods that we just knew would taste good next week and are still there covered in frost?? Do a deep cleaning especially of your freezer and toss out foods that are likely freezer burned or won’t be eaten. Silver lining? More room for new ice cream!!
Keep Water Around The House
One of the best things you can do for yourself in the summer months is drink LOTS of water. Experts say on average one should drink about 15.5 cups (3.7 liters) of fluids a day for men and bout 11.5 cups (2.7 liters) of fluids a day for women. Some of us just don’t like to drink water, we get it. To help keep you in line we suggest stashing water around the house as constant reminders. Use a Stainless Steel Bottle or two (or three!) which are great for staying nice and cold all day. For every non-water drink you have (coffee, caffeinated tea, juice, etc) be sure to balance it out with a glass of water. Keep sipping all day. Cheers!!
Clear Out The Clutter
During the colder months all we want to do is stay in and be cozy. A little Netflix & chill. Spring and summer we get a little more motivated to GET UP and clean. Now is a great time to declutter closets, drawers, garages and storage. If you don’t use it – GIVE IT. If you don’t wear it – GIVE IT. You will be able to spread your wings in an environment that inspires you instead of making you feel overwhelmed.
Prep Your Deck Or Patio
If you are blessed to have an outdoor deck or patio – USE IT ! Get rid of any excuses to not hang outside by making sure your outdoor space is set up the way you like it and is inviting to YOU! Get a broom. Check the chair legs. Ask someone to join you. Read or meditate alone. Take advantage of all that fresh air!
Be sure to clean out your grill while you are at it! Succulent veggies and juicy meats are calling your name! Try grilling some fruits as well like peaches or watermelon!!
Grow Your Garden
If you have a yard check on your plants, or add new gems to your garden. Got a patio? Potted plants are a great way to make your outdoor space more welcoming and give you a nice summer hobby. Now you can have INDOOR garden fun too with items such as the Aerogarden! Plant herbs, tomatoes, or flowers inside all year round. In my home we especially love the basil and cherry tomatoes. Sounds like the makings of a perfect summer salad!
Check Your Smoke Detectors
Any time of year is a good time to check your smoke detectors and batteries. (Fans of This Is Us, am I right??) Adding as a to do item to your Seasonal Check List is a great way to instill constant reminders.
Add Inspiration To Your Home
And last but not least… one of our favorite essential home to do’s is to ADD SOME INSPIRING ART TO YOUR HOME! Swap out your home decor with something new and vibrant! Splash on some soul to sofa Cushion Covers. Update your Shower Curtains and Bath Mats. Bring that gallery feel into any room with new Canvas Art.
